Welcoming, inclusive, and practical antenatal education in Canterbury. Whether you prefer relaxed weekly classes or a deep dive over two Sundays, we have a format to suit your lifestyle. Each class is designed to be interactive, evidence-based, and community-focused—with plenty of laughs and real talk along the way.

All classes are LGBTQ+ friendly and inclusive.

Antenatal Class Options

Friday Friends Antenatal Course - 6 Weeks

Fridays | 7:00 – 9:00pm | $240 per course

Next Friday Friends Course starts: Friday 18th July

A six-week journey into pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood. This popular course helps you understand the changes of pregnancy, prepare for birth, explore early parenting, and build your breastfeeding knowledge. You'll also meet other expectant parents in a fun, friendly environment.

  • Weekly 2 hour evening sessions

  • Light supper included

  • Hands on learning and social connection

  • Ideal for those wanting a steady paced experience

Sunday School Antenatal Classes - 2-day Intensive

Two consecutive Sundays | 10:00am – 4:30pm

Next Sunday School Classes: 29 June/6 July

$240 for both days | $120 for a single day

Short on time? Join our engaging, no-fluff weekend option. Whether you're preparing early or last minute, Sunday School covers all the essentials in two full-day sessions.

Day 1 – The Birth Journey:

  • Understanding labour

  • Working with pain & medical pain management options

  • Breathing, massage, and comfort

  • Interventions and informed consent

  • Rights as a healthcare consumer

  • Support organisations

Day 2 – Life with Baby:

  • Comprehensive breastfeeding workshop

  • Newborn tests (Vitamin K, etc.)

  • Practical parenting

  • Recovery after birth

  • Mental health & the “fourth trimester”

  • Parenting styles and bonding

  • Fun activities like a treasure hunt! 

Many more topics are included, e.g., safety, milestones, nutrition, changes in pregnancy, well-child services, and more. Light morning tea and barista coffee are provided. If you miss a day, you're welcome to join the next available session to make it up.

Get to know Claire

Claire is a highly experienced and qualified childbirth educator with more than 20 years of experience across Canterbury and Otago. She is the director of Canterbury Antenatal Classes and wants to help new parents feel informed, supported, and confident. "Sharing information in an easy to digest way is what I love."

Claire is known for her warmth, humour, and practical approach to antenatal education. As a mother of five, she brings a realistic and compassionate voice to her work and offers private antenatal classes tailored to individual needs.

A gentle, nourishing yoga class tailored for pregnancy. Learn safe postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices to support your body and mind through each stage.6-week block available. Bookings essential. 

Mum & Baby Yoga with Deanna

Thursdays at 10am | Starting 17 July 2025


Reconnect with your body, bond with your baby, and enjoy a relaxed, supportive space with other new mums. This class blends gentle movement, baby friendly poses, and time to share and connect. 6 week block available. Bookings essential
